Agency Marketing Services Road Blocks

(& Why Clients Should Care)

What are the biggest challenges facing your inbound marketing agency? Why could these create problems for you as a client? Read on.

Agency Marketing Services Road Block #1: Forsaking Inbound Marketing.

One of the challenges that the customer has is the type of agency they’re doing business with. They may promise tons of leads but in actuality are only providing a ton of disruptive marketing services and little to no inbound marketing services.

Why This Matters To A Client: Let’s say, for example, your agency is pushing really hard to produce a commercial for you. Is it because they’ve sized you up and aim to charge you and arm and a leg to produce a beautiful product that may win them a Clio award, or are they touting the commercial as a means to a desired end? And, can they show results and offer predictions of how the commercial will ultimately benefit your company – beyond tantalizing and hyperbolic statements?

The end result might wind up having significantly less ROI than less costly inbound marketing strategies.  Radio isn’t cheap. TV isn’t cheap. And, unless you’re in the throws of building a new brand from the ground up, these channels might not be worth the time, money and effort – no matter how hard the agency may try to convince you otherwise.

Agency Marketing Services Road Block #2: Underlying Motives.

This is an all-too-familiar reality in the agency business.

Agencies will typically sell the type of work that they’re familiar with doing. An agency that does a lot of direct mail? That’s what they’re going to be selling. An agency that is highly effective with radio? They’re going to try and sell you a lot of radio.

Typical agencies are people-enabled (high costs) and creative focused, meaning they have a lot of people they have to keep busy – creative, executives. When they’re pitching a client, they see the potential business as an opportunity to validate the existence of everyone under their collective roof – from graphic designers to web designers, copywriters to social media experts.

Why This Matters To A Client: Agencies clamoring to make a buck might be more concerned about making payroll than about making a client shine.

The underlying motive is to load the client up with all of the kinds of agency marketing services that they are able to fulfill – and that’s not always necessarily in the best interests of the client

On the other hand Inbound marketing agencies are technology driven (lower costs) and results focused. These agencies are more likely to prove your Return on Investment (ROI).

As a client, you need to make sure you’ve got the best solutions in place that meet the needs of your strategic objectives. Finding an agency that excels in those tactics that benefit your brand isn’t always easy – but when the match is found, the marketing flows effortlessly and productively.
