Where Do Leads Come From? | Inbound 281

Ever wonder where and how providers of agency marketing services get their leads? There was an interesting study recently released by HubSpot called the “State of Inbound Marketing Report” that reveals a heck of a lot about where not only customers come from but where leads come from.

Here are a few of their findings – perhaps learning some of the most tried and true channels and methods will help you to better focus your agency marketing services efforts moving forward.

State of Inbound Marketing Report – Notable Findings

• The top 3 lead sources for B2B companies are SEO (14%), email marketing (13%), and social media (12%)

• 8% of B2B Companies get their leads from telemarketing

• Traditional marketing is more the B2C marketer’s game, with 3x more leads (9% versus 4%)

• B2C marketers’ worst two lead sources are telemarketing (3%), trade shows (6%)

• Conversely, B2B agency marketing services providers found much more success with trade show lead generation

Lead Generation By Industry – Notable Findings

• The Nonprofit/Edu space and the Banking/Insurance/Financial Services industry get more leads through direct mail than their counterparts -- 13% and 11%, respectively.

• The Technology industry gets at least double the number of leads (24%) through trade shows compared to the other industries represented.

• Marketing agencies get the most leads from blogging compared to the other industries.

• The Retail/Wholesale/Consumer Goods industry gets 19% of its leads from social media, the most when compared to the other industries surveyed.

• The Technology (Software) industry gets 16% of its leads from SEO, the leader with respect to the other industries surveyed.
